Mithesh Ramachandran

Hi, I’m Mithesh 👋

I’m a Computer Science graduate student at the University of Southern California, where I specialize in Geospatial Computing and NLP, and building data-driven systems that create real-world impact.

Before USC, I completed my undergraduate degree in Data Science, and my Postgraduate diploma in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, where I laid a strong foundation in analytics, programming, and research. Since then, I’ve applied those skills across industries—developing scalable NLP pipelines at NielsenIQ, contributing to advanced speech research at IIT, and currently analyzing student engagement data to drive strategic planning at USC Marshall School of Business.

I’m especially interested in Geospatial Computing, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning—areas where data meets human behavior, location intelligence, and decision-making. Whether I’m working with Python, SQL, or visualization tools like Power BI, my focus is always on uncovering insights that inform and inspire action.

On the creative side, I’ve designed and curated monthly magazines for reputed non-profits such as Rotaract—a selection of which you can explore under the Design tab.

Beyond data and design, I’m also a passionate photographer. You’ll often find me capturing city skylines, aerial views, and the candid rhythms of life that unfold when you’re paying attention. Photography grounds me—it sharpens my eye for detail and adds a layer of storytelling to everything I do.

Analyzing student engagement data and streamlining performance metrics to inform strategic planning and marketing initiatives for the career center. Creating visual reports, automating data pipelines, and enhancing outreach using Salesforce and Excel.

Jr. Machine Learning Engineer – Omdena

Sept 2022 – Nov 2022

Contributed to the development of AI-based soft skills training solutions. Worked on cloud-based deployment strategies and collaborated across a distributed team on applied NLP and data engineering tasks.

Intern – NielsenIQ

Nov 2021 – May 2022

Built scalable NLP and Deep Learning pipelines for processing sentiment, Indic languages, and code-mixed data. Automated extraction, cleaning, and visualization of large-scale market research datasets to generate actionable business insights.

Data Science Intern – Flutura Decision Sciences

Focused on computer vision applications including face and object detection. Annotated datasets, trained deep learning models, and contributed to model performance evaluation.

Founder & Designer – MitDes

Founded a creative design studio specializing in magazines and presentations. Designed monthly publications for Rotaract and led nationwide collaborations with visual artists, showcased under the Design tab.

Research Experience:

Intern (ASR) – IIT Dharwad (02/21 - 01/22)

Worked on Automatic Speech Recognition of Indic languages such as Assamese, Tamil and Hindi using state of the art open-source ASR toolkits based on python and Kaldi under the guidance of Professor K Samudravijaya (Adjunct Faculty KL Deemed to be University, previously at TIFR and IITG and IIT Dharwad).

Data Science Intern – AkzoNobel (07/21 - 12/21)

Part of the Data Science research team from the NMIMS University and AkzoNobel research collaboration. Worked on optimizing various parameters using Machine Learning

Research Intern (BCI) – NMIMS (04/21 - 06/21)

Worked in the field of Computational Neuroscience, Brain Computer Interface and Neuromarketing using EEG and other modalities as part of interdisciplinary research at Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunication.
